E-scooters are a frequent target for theft. A guide to the most effective locks, alarms, and GPS trackers for your scooter — from €30 to €200.
Mechanical Locks
D-lock (steel U-lock): €35–€60. 12 mm chain + lock: €50–€90. Most effective: two different locks (D-lock + chain) — a thief needs two different tools.
Disc Lock
A smaller lock on the brake disc prevents wheel rotation. Price €20–€40. Always with a reminder (cable to the handlebar) to remove it before riding.
Alarm
Built-in 110+ dB alarm with motion sensor. Price: €30–€80. Effective mainly on quiet streets; often ignored in city centers.
GPS Tracker
Device €80–€150 + subscription €4–€8/month. In case of theft, it provides location accuracy up to a few meters. Highly recommended for A1 models and delivery drivers.
Theft Insurance
An additional €30–€60/year with most insurance companies. Condition: the scooter must be locked with an approved lock. Without a lock, theft is usually not covered.
