AM vs A1 Scooter: Which Category to Choose for Your Needs
AM up to 45 km/h suitable for the city, A1 up to 85 km/h for suburban routes. Differences in price, license, insurance, and practical usability.

Maximum Speed
AM: 45 km/h (legally limited). A1: 85 km/h. For city driving, 45 km/h is sufficient, but for suburban roads (90 km/h regional roads), an A1 is significantly safer in traffic flow.
License
AM from age 15, short course, ~€300 with theoretical and practical exam. A1 from age 16, longer course, ~€500–€700.
Scooter Price
AM after subsidy from €1,190. A1 after subsidy from €1,940 (the higher €750 subsidy partially compensates for the higher price).
Annual Insurance
AM €60–€90. A1 €100–€150. A difference of approximately €50 annually.
When to Choose AM
Driving exclusively within the city ring, up to 15 km distance, inactive riders, teenagers for their first moped, shopping trips.
When to Choose A1
Driving on suburban and regional roads, daily commuting to neighboring municipalities (e.g., Domžale–Ljubljana), delivery platform users, drivers with a B license obtained before 2013.
